9-11 Flag Ceremony

Our school made September 11th a special day. We started the day off with a flag-raising ceremony, and before lunch we watched a special video presentation about 9-11 created by our Computer Lab Aide.

Welcome Back Mrs. Stucki's Class!

We are aware of continued reports of swine flu cases across the United States; and of suspected cases that have prompted the temporary closing of schools in the Park City School District.

The Washington County School District developed a pandemic emergency response plan two years ago. The plan outlines actions that should be taken before, during, and after a pandemic event. On Thursday morning (April 30th), School District officials met with all school principals to review the readiness aspects of the plan, which include:

* Increasing disease-prevention practices such as hand-washing, use of hand-sanitizer, and cleaning,
* Ensuring that emergency contact numbers are current,
* Monitoring and reporting potential cases of flu to the public health department, and
* Keeping parents and staff informed,
* Preparing student homework plans that could be implemented via paper-packets and the internet if schools are temporarily closed.

In a pandemic emergency the authority to restrict public gatherings, including attending school is vested with the public health department. It is the intent of the Washington County School District to comply with all their directives.

At the present time there are no confirmed cases of flu in our schools and all schools are open and operating.

A key aspect of the response process is the prompt and accurate distribution of information. The Washington County School District webpage will be a primary information source www.washk12.org. Information will also be shared with local newspaper, radio, and television stations.

Swine Flu Alert

The Southwest Utah Public Health Department has issued a report to Washington County School District with the following information:

"SWINE FLU INFLUENZA A H1N1

The U.S. is experiencing a never before seen type of swine flu which is a unique combination of gene segments not previously seen. This strain is responding to the antiviral medications: Tamiflu and Relenza. It is not anticipated that the seasonal influenza vaccine will provide protection against the swine flu viruses. This acute respiratory illness presents with the follwing symptoms: fever, cough, sore throat, vomiting, headache, congestion, and muscle pain. Suspected cases are to be reported to Southwest Public Health 435-986-2551 or 2546 or FAX to 435-652-4069. Avoid close contact with sick people. Influenza is thought to spread mainly person to person through coughing or sneezing of infected people. If you become ill with a fever, please stay home to avoid spreading the disease.

We will keep fully updated by our local health department as information is provided for measures we must take to reduce the risk of this communicable disease.

Dr. Suess Week was a Blast! Each day, the students and teachers could do funny new things with clothes and hair... Monday was "Sneetches on Beaches" day where everyone wore beach clothing. Tuesday was Dress like your favorite Who. Wednesday was "Cat-in-the-Hat" crazy hat day. Thurdsay was "Crazy Foot" day where everyone wore crazy socks and mismatched or funny looking shoes. Last, on Friday we had Pajama Day.

Our school Science Fair was so much Fun!
