The Owl

Last Friday at lunch time in all of the hustle and bustle, Mrs. LeBaron noticed a group of first graders all clustered together under a tree. The first graders had discovered something extraordinary. A small Owl had somehow found its way onto our school property and decided to perch in a tree just outside the lunchroom. It was definitely groggy and wanted to close its eyes to sleep, but it would open them back up reluctantly to stare down at the many faces wondering at it.

Mrs. Mortensen notified the other older grades who had simply been too preocupied to notice the owl. Each class filed outside for a few minutes to enjoy the site quietly.

Leave it to children to notice the beauty and wonder of nature that so many of us fail to observe...
